Devon Doctors awarded contract to support GP trainees
Devon Doctors has been awarded the contract to support GP trainees through their training.
This will see us offer them continuous employment as they move from one placement to another. GP trainees are put in a variety of placements during their three-year training, rotating through GP practices, acute and mental health trusts.
In the past, each time they swapped placements, they needed to get a new contract. This led to numerous bureaucratic difficulties and made things complicated for the trainee, the Deanery [now called PGME] and the educational providers [GP practices, trusts, etc].
From the summer of this year, all new GP trainees will be employed by Devon Doctors as they move through their training.
Each time they change, a simple honorary contract will be set up with the educational provider, and all the HR headaches will be dealt with by our skilled HR team with Kim Pegman managing the contract lead.
"We are keen to give the GPs a really great service, so it will allow them to concentrate on their studies and work, explained Kim. "We will be there to help them, should they encounter any HR difficulties".
The Dean of Postgraduate GP Education, Julia Oxenbury, said that she was delighted that Devon Doctors had gained the contract.
"Devon Doctors really understand GPs, and that gives us confidence that they will be able to support the trainees excellently," said Julia.
Trainees who are mid-training will be transferred to Devon Doctors during their training, as they change placement. Within a year, all the 300 or so trainees will be employed by Devon Doctors.
